Brazil
In late 2005, I received a $1,000 travel voucher from STA Travel and cashed it in on a ticket to South America in early 2006. While in Brazil, I traveled South on the main road from Venezuela, down through Boa Vista until I reached Manaus. Traveling up the Amazon river by boat, we reached the point of the river where the white and black waters mix.
Continuing along by a small plane to Belém where the excitement of Carnival had already begun. Wolfgang, my German backpacker friend and I, had just enough time for a peaceful lunch at a local restaurant before I had to hop another plane to Rio de Janeiro, the capital of tan bodies and extravagant party.
The camera didn't make it to Carnival, we packed light with only a copy of our passports, 40 Brazilian Reais (about $80 USD), and a bottle of water.
The last stop in Brazil was at Foz do Iguaçu.
